A traditionally religious time of the year, Lent is associated with hardship & sacrifices.
As the human time line progresses, there are merits and sometimes necessity that we practice traditions and consider history from an out-of-the-box angle.
For example, the concept of sacrifice often brings on the memory or expectations of pains. However, the new meaning of sacrifice for the contemporary time is simply that we “let go” of something that no longer serves us.
Replacing the (positive) void of what’s already gone, we incorporate the new energy, people and situation that work for us and our life now (not in the past). So, this modern day definition of “sacrifice” gives the word a positive meaning and use. Sacrifice no longer needs to be feared.
Sacrifice has been a major concept of the Lenten Season. With the above understanding, the “giving-ups” and “sacrifices” could now be this great opportunity to make the positive changes we had wanted in our lives, but were finding all sorts of excuses to delay and avoid. Well, it’s Lent, give it up. Give up the cigarette smoking, give up being late too often, give up the white lies we use when running late, give up the blaming of the traffic and of the economy.
Throughout this process, pay attention. Pay attention to your intuitive hits as you step into the unfamiliar ground and trying out the “New You” outfit. Feel how your body – the five senses, no all six senses really – is reacting to the new behavior and outlook. Is there some kind of “inner knowing” that has been urging you along the way in the first few days of your “sacrifice”? What do you remember the last time you went through similar situation, if at all? Note the correlation between this memory and your inner guidance regarding where you’re headed to.
Make this Lenten Season an intuitive season!
